For @shadowandbones who wanted to see Jace and Sebastian (Jonathan) sparring. Sorry it took me so long. And sorry it’s probably not what you wanted but my muses ran with the idea… 

A show and City of Lost Souls mash-up. Show!Jonathan does to Show!Jace what Book!Jonathan did to Book!Jace…

They’re sparring, Jonathan and he, razor sharp blades clashing together with loud clangs, cutting skin and drawing blood. And it’s… it’s good so, it is – it is! – because they need to be ready for… for…

– Jace’s head hurts –

… for something, he’s sure that Jonathan told him for what and he agreed – of course he did because Jonathan knows what he’s doing. They just need to be ready. For when the time comes.

Still, he can’t help but feel that it’s… not-right-wrong-bad… strange. They train and spar the way their father taught them, hard and fast, till exhaustion claims them, till they can’t no more, demon blood against angel blood, black eyes against gold, and yet…

– Jace remembers laughter and happiness and warmth in his chest and “Wanna go hand-to-hand?” and “Oh, I thought you’d never ask” and rolling on the ground and fun and no blood and no pain –

Pain! Jonathan cuts him, the deep, dripping wound dangerously close to the… to the… rune… that one… the one that must be protected at all costs. What…?

“Pay attention!” Jonathan roars furiously. “Next time, it’ll be your throat!”

Jace doesn’t reply, he doesn’t say a word. Because Jonathan’s right. Jonathan’s always right. Still…

“Again!” Jonathan snaps and goes on the offensive without giving Jace any time to heal or regroup – and Jace grits his teeth and fights back, his Seraph Blades a a blur.

Still, there’s something he needs to remember. Something. Someone…

For a second, Alec wonders if he’s actually awake. It feels like a bad dream. It feels like a nightmare he’s had before. A dark, dirty room. The smell of ashes and rot. His heart hammering in his ears. Jace attacking him. The weight of Jace’s body on top of him combined with a furious look on his face. Being held down forcefully to the ground, unable to escape. Looking up into Jace’s eyes and seeing no signs of playfulness, no affection for him, no reverence for what they are to each other.

An alternate version of the parabatai fight in 1×09, this manages to put into words everything I thought was wrong with season 1 and its treatment of Alec.

Alec had kissed him then, the thought of separating himself from Jace voluntarily ridiculous enough to put an end to any fear that he might have had.

A dark what-if… “What if the warnings about what happens to parabatai who fell in love were true?” This is amazing, one of the best fics in this fandom!

Summary: The Seelie Queen agrees to Alec’s request for
an audience, as long as he brings Valentine’s Experiments—Jace and Clary—along
with him. (Alternative version of the events from episode 2.14.)

“You’re
nervous.”

Alec
frowns. “Do I look nervous, or…?”

“No, parabatai,” says Jace, stressing the
last word. “But you might end up twisting our bond into a knot if you don’t relax.”

Alec takes
a deep breath and releases the air slowly, counting his—their—heartbeats. He
keeps staring at the water running down the stream as if it might suddenly turn
into lava, but at least his fingers relax their grip on the bridge rail.

Jace rests
a hand on Alec’s tense shoulder and squeezes it gently. “Talk to me. What’s on
your mind?”

“Take a
pick. We’re meeting the Seelie Queen on her own turf to question her about her
possible involvement in a series of vicious murders. One wrong move, and best
case scenario, you and I and Clary end up killed. Worst case, an all-out Seelie
revolt, for which the Institute would be poorly prepared. We can’t by any means
offend her, but we need to stand our ground as well. All that, and we must be
finished in time for the Downworld Cabinet Meeting this afternoon. To which hopefully the queen, after not killing
us or declaring war, will agree to
send a representative. And then Raziel knows how that meeting will go. I don’t like that I had to rely on Raphael’s
interest in Izzy to get him to go. I don’t like that Luke showed so much
reluctance when I invited him. And I don’t like that Magnus sounded so distant
on the phone when I asked him to come as the High Warlock of Brooklyn and not
as my boyfriend.”

“Okay.
That’s a lot. Anything else?”

“Well,
there’s also this slight annoyance of seeing Shadowhunters that a few months
ago respected me as the acting head of the Institute now looking at me with
disdain and making bets about how many days
I’m going to last as the actual
head.”

Jace
cringes. “They’re not…”

“I can hear
the whispers, Jace. Apparently, ‘warlock’s boy toy’ is my new nickname.”
