The Wind to the Lake, by fresne

Jonathan felt as exposed as a mountain peak, while David’s face was the lake that gave nothing back but the empty blue of the sky. He felt spun around by David. Though he was the prince and a man grown, and David was just a shepherd boy. Jonathan was the one mastered.

David laughed. “If one of us is a lake, it is you. While I am the wind, the Lord sends to the lake and the mountain.”

Adult, somewhat AU. David as Jonathan’s armour bearer (pre-Goliath) – Jonathan might be the prince, but David is wily and knows exactly what to do. This manages to tweak the biblical story perfectly while painting a beautiful picture of their relationship.
