He felt it in the drift, how not-sorry Jake is for leaving all this behind. But he fumbles with Jake’s belt anyway, works it open with his hands, because yes Nate’s uptight and has no sense of humor and he’ll never forgive Jake for leaving, but he’s stupid-in-love with him all the same.
I don’t have the same kind of love for this movie as for the first, but this ship? That set sail all on its own.

If there’s one thing in this entire damned outfit that he doesn’t regret doing, it’s Nate, though Jake’s got the funny feeling in the back of his mind that in real short order Nate’s going to regret everything to do with him.
It’s for the best. Probably. One day he’ll find a way to make it up to Nate. Maybe.

Ten years ago, Nate and Jake were something to each other. Maybe. But it didn’t end well and they’re done with it, and it’s not like it matters now. They’re not even friends anymore, and they definitely aren’t getting back together.

Adult. Oh wow, this fic is EVERYTHING I needed and wanted after watching the movie. I still can’t believe there isn’t more of this pairing out there, but now I have this, 10k of beautiful development, totally in character.

The only part of the battle they don’t put into the simulators is the aftermath. He could see it on Jake’s face after they faced Obsidian Fury that first time in Sydney, and again after they destroyed it in Siberia. Still feeling the injuries that were dealt to the Jaeger, but not seeing them on you anywhere. Suddenly standing a hundredth of the height you were just minutes ago.
Adult, post-movie. This is exactly what I needed after watching the movie – perfect character voices, perfect smuttiness!
