“Sit, Louis, please,” he grins up at him, catlike. When Louis doesn’t move, he takes him by the wrist and pulls him firmly down onto the couch, then wraps an arm around Louis’ neck to force him closer. Louis plays no part and lets himself be collected against Lestat’s side like a ragdoll, used to theatrics like this and assuming this is just another of Lestat’s emotional episodes that will pass momentarily.
“Maharet, there’s something you should know. Louis and I are engaged to be wed.”
Maharet and Louis both exchange looks of disbelief. Louis sits up suddenly, knocking his arms away, turning to Lestat with his mouth hanging open. He turns to Maharet for answers, but she is wearing the same lost expression as him.
Louis laughs awkwardly. “We’re what? What’s happening?”
