Winter’s Children, by Neery
They looked similar enough to be siblings. All of them were small, skinny, with blond hair and narrow faces. They looked… familiar, looked like… like… Steve Rogers, he thought, but that was absurd. Rogers – Captain America – had been 200 pounds of deadly muscle, nothing at all like these frail little kids.
His head spun dizzily.
Adult, post-WS, kid!fic. The Winter Soldier herding a whole bunch of little Steve clones – this should be utterly ridiculous, instead it hits you right in the feels.
Sparked Up Like a Book of Matches, by Sena
Steve stops and doesn’t know what to do, to say. He wraps his arms around himself like he’s cold. He ignores the lady beside him cursing him for stopping in the middle of the walk. He makes himself move towards Bucky and he stops five feet away. He says, “Hey, Buck.“
Bucky says, "Why didn’t you ever send anyone after me?"
Steve doesn’t say it’s because he was afraid he was going crazy. He tells another truth. "Because you deserve not to be hunted.”
Mature, post-WS, non-AoU-compliant. In which both Steve and Bucky are damaged and made me want to hug them forever, but which still managed to have me laughing out loud several times because of the awesome Avengers characterisations and snappy dialogue. My favourite combination.
Vid: Avengers: Age of Hydra Final Epic Trailer, by Alex Luthor
This is truly epic – a complete AU, telling the story of a world in which Red Skull used the Tesseract to re-write the future, helping the Nazis/Hydra to win and causing Tony to end up on the wrong side. Seriously, it’s amazing, especially since Steve (the only one who remembers the original history) works not only with some of the Avengers but also X-Men/Brotherhood mutants.
In addition to this final trailer, there’s a whole Youtube playlist of teasers and “tv spots”, including a Director’s Commentary. I would so totally read a proper novel-length fanfic version of this!
ETA: Changed the link to a backup upload of the vid, since the original had been deleted.
Vid: Natasha Romanoff as the Winter Soldier, by avengers-in-love
AU, as it says on the tin, and a pretty plausible one at that – Natasha has been brainwashed, but those pesky little memories of Clint (and the Avengers, but mostly Clint *g*) keep intruding… The vidder has also done some cool mission-based Clint & Natasha vids set all over the world. Music: Savior, by 30 Seconds to Mars.
Vid: Hymn of the Winter Soldier, by Orig1n
Even when he shouldn’t, Bucky remembers that man on the bridge. Great POV vid. Music: “hz_t_afchase_endinglongversion” by Hans Zimmer, from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Soundtrack.
Vid: I Can’t Pretend, by Pinkly Smooth
Mr. & Mrs. Smith AU – how so perfect? 🙂 Music: Can’t Pretend, by Tom Odell.
I’ll Get By, by Jamesina
He doesn’t say Before I saw you again, I used to wonder if I hadn’t died after all, and this was hell. It crosses his mind often, when things don’t seem quite real. It could be hell, or some other kind of punishment for killing without any reason except vengeance. But he always knows he’d do it again if he had the chance.
Adult, post-Winter Soldier, warnings for PTSD and some mild D/s.
Bucky might be the one who has to remember and then learn to live with the memories, but Steve needs him just as much. “Rain and Darkness Too” is wonderfully long, delving deep into these two and the immense, life-defining love they share. The follow-up fics are great as well – also, insanely hot.
The Fallen Son, by radialarch
Captain America 3: The Fallen Son is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Meta!fic, RPS. I absolutely adore this, it’s brilliant and had me laughing out loud in delight at how true it all rang (esp. the fan reactions, omg). The crossover into RPS made it even better – meta heaven! 🙂
