TC didn’t know why but that suggestion left a sour taste in her mouth. She didn’t know much about Louis, apart from what was written in the book and she didn’t even believe half that shit, but what she knew for certain was that that book, and by extension Louis had broken Lestat’s heart and that fact in and of itself was enough to make her distrust him, if not outright dislike him. She was sure it was all complicated and multifaceted and a whole bunch of different things, but she only knew what she saw.

Neither of them speak or move beyond shallow breathing until finally Miranda says, “James.”

He turns to her then, his eyes wide with something like fear, and Thomas forces himself to speak. “James,” he repeats.

The sound he makes is something desperate and small and finally he reaches for him. Thomas holds him tightly for the space of several, heaving breaths, before he pulls back just far enough to kiss him. There are tears on both their cheeks, and James’ lips tremble beneath his, but still Thomas thinks that he has never felt joy like this before.

James kisses him desperately, clutching at the nape of his neck with blunt nails. Where Thomas breaks away with a smile, James sobs and digs into his skin. He hopes he leaves the crescents of his nails imprinted there; he hopes he bleeds.

When Miranda sets a hand on his shoulder, he startles, lost to everything but the heat of James body beneath his palms. She says their names, one after another. “Let’s go home.”

Adult, canon-divergence. This is such an amazing reunion fic – I love Thomas, James and Miranda in this as well as Charles getting entangled with their mènage, and how Thomas still can’t help but commit himself and those that love him to a cause…

Miranda had taken her time before answering. She had wanted to keep James for herself, but also she cared too deeply about Thomas to deceive him.

Teen, missing scene. Interesting Miranda POV as she realises that her husband is as in love with James as she herself is – and that his feelings might not be unrequited.

Thomas takes one step past the threshold before he stops. Across the room, Flint looks up from where he’d been leaning on Max’s desk, paging through a book with an idle sort of attention. He stands abruptly, the book falling from his grasp, and remains frozen in place like a fucking statue until finally his wide eyes drift to Vane’s.

Flint’s lips part in a question, as if he’s trying to articulate some horrible fear from inside of him, but before he can voice it Thomas whispers, “James.”

They both move then, collapsing into each other like waves at high tide.

It takes a moment for Vane to even make sense of it, the way Flint’s arms wrap around Thomas’ shoulders, digging into the skin there like he might at any moment be torn away. Thomas’ chest is hitching in laughter or in tears, he can’t tell. Thomas pulls back, looking at Flint like he first looked at the crystal water of Nassau cupped in his palms.

When they kiss, Vane finally collects himself, forcing one foot back and then the next, closing the door as softly as he can manage. He doesn’t think they even notice.

Adult, canon-divergence. Eleanor Guthrie is gone, and Captain Vane raids a rather special plantation in Savannah… How is he supposed to resist this strange, compelling English noble, even when he turns out to be Captain Flint’s long-lost lover. This fic is amazing, even for someone who barely knows who Charles Vane is. I love the mix of developing triad and outside POV.

“You are fond of him,” she said quietly. “This isn’t merely desire, is it?”

He tilted his head to look at her and laughed a little sadly. “Ridiculous, isn’t it?”

She wanted to weep for both of them, and could only lean over to kiss his cheek, then his lips softly. “It ought to be our crest.” She wrapped her arm over his chest, and he clasped her hand in his. “I should have seen it. If you wish me to stop my relationship…”

“No!” The vehemence in his tone startled her. “No. Not at all. We can take what pleasure he will share with us, you in sharing a bed, and I in our business together. It will be well.”

She kissed his shoulder. “I love you, Thomas,” she said softly. “You do know that, don’t you?”

He nodded. “And I you.”

She rested her cheek against his shoulder, knowing it could never be enough.

Adult, missing scene. The ménage à trois between Thomas McGraw and the Hamiltons is fascinating, because there’s no doubt all three of them love each other. However, this fic manages to perfectly capture the way Miranda doesn’t quite fit between these two men…

There’s a panic within him that Lestat hasn’t felt for years when the sunlight streams in a perfect circle containing Claudia and Louis’s fledgling, a panic he hasn’t felt since the night he felt tainted blood rise to his throat and the love of his life drag a knife across it. It’s the panic of an ending unexpected, of a rug yanked from beneath him. He made his choice. He chose Louis. He knew if it came down to using his abilities to sway the audience, he only had the power for one. It wasn’t even something he had to think about. It was Louis. It was always going to be Louis. 

But it’s Claudia before him now, looking back at him with a daughter’s eyes even as her face begins to crumble into ash.

Mature, canon-divergence. Lestat finds a way to save Claudia. I love all three POVs (Lestat, Louis, Claudia) and how there are no easy fixes for the mess that’s their family.

It’s been like six months and he still doesn’t know her name. She comes in almost every week day, with the exception of the odd morning here and there, and at this point, it would be awkward for him to say, hey, what’s your name, by the way? especially because she remembers his even when he’s not wearing the nametag.

It’s probably for the best that he doesn’t get to know her any better since he definitely doesn’t have a chance. Most of the time, she’s here alone, but in recent weeks she’s occasionally joined by a friend – a girlfriend he’s pretty sure – who is just as gorgeous as she is.

Old Fitz – a much younger Fitz – the engineer who had barely ever left the lab and didn’t have any relationships other than with his mother and lab partner, would have been terrified of the conversation they were now having, would probably have blanched at the thought that he and Jemma had been sleeping together and pretending to be married without ever knowing their true standing.

Now, this Fitz, the new one who could hold a real gun steady and fire it, and would kill to protect Jemma without ever losing sleep over it – well, he was still scared. But having her pulse in his hand brought air into his lungs, and the strange peacefulness of knowing that dying to protect her was nothing more than his most basic purpose. His life for hers, at the sound of a gun. In his head, it seemed just that simple.

She stops, because Nikhil’s head shoots up to look at her, recoiling. He looks absolutely horrified, and Sestia isn’t sure what kind of misstep she’s made – the same Murdina probably did when she brought up his horns being sensitive – so she speeds up, trying to backtrack, “I just mean, you said you don’t bring people back here, but you brought us, so I thought-“

“It’s not like that!” Nikhil cuts in. He’s gripping his tail so hard his fingernails are carving crescents into it. He shakes his head fiercely. “I wouldn’t- You guys needed a place to stay, and I- that’s why I said I’d sleep on the couch, but then I thought that might be too much, so I just stayed out here-“

Adult, post-canon. Sestia and Murdina realise that adding Nikhil to their relationship is rather more complicated than one might think when looking at him… This is excellent, I really enjoy how they treat Nikhil’s issues – and the sex is sizzling hot.
