He saw the shadow move before he actually registered the sound, the click. Instinct and surprise should have made him move faster, but he was almost on the shadow before he noticed it, before it moved. It was no tackle, more like tripping, legs tangling with his, a heavier body and an amazingly solid fist punching into his lower back even while he twisted around to meet his attacker head-on. That faint filtered light from the windows and the kitchen shone off skin and a white t-shirt. A mostly white t-shirt. So glaring now even in the half-light and how had he missed it? How had he missed Dom sitting in his living room?

Last place he expected him to be. He should be in Mexico. Anywhere.

Vince was looking at him really hard, “So when’d you stop being a patrolman?”

“About two hours ago.”

Vince blew out his breath hard and clenched his fists. Brian tightened his grip on the steering wheel and tried to make his face blank.  Surely, Vince wouldn’t take a swing while they were barreling down the 405 south at 70 miles per?

“What are you saying, man? And just what the fuck do you think you’re doing?”  Vince’s voice had an edge that could slice through an artery but Brian could tell he was actually trying to keep his temper. Prison really does change you, I guess.

“I just…” Brian cleared his throat but it still came out kind of choked. “I just want a do-over.”

He made a good show of going through all the portfolios, making notes, and hmmming thoughtfully, but his decision had been made from the moment Han Qinghua burst into his office to proclaim, “We’re gonna pay Bai Yu to fuck himself with our new toy and make millions of yuan off it. It’s gonna be great.”

He leaned in, it was very important that he held her eyes right now. She needed to know that he was dead serious.

When he looks up, however, he doesn’t seem surprised. “Huh. I was actually joking. So it’s this or Starfleet Medical, huh? Your people wouldn’t like that at all.”

“There is a time,” Spock says slowly, taking the chair across from Jim, “for discretion. And then there is a time for the necessary.”

Jim drops the datapad.

“This is the necessary.”

Jim nods grimly before closing his eyes and taking a careful breath. “If you touch me,” Jim says slowly, “I will kill you. Or you will have to kill me. Do we understand each other?”

Spock nods. “As you would say: crystal.”

When his alternate first arrived in a scrambled transporter beam two weeks ago, Jim was excited to meet him and combine their powers for the forces of awesome. Actually, first Jim ordered him quarantined, polygraphed, and tested for alien DNA, but he should have known the guy would hack his way out of the brig, and by the time he emerged again, clothes inexplicably torn and whiskey eyes somehow deadened, Jim knew he was who he said he was and instead of excitement, he felt a creeping disquiet about the man.

Howie turned slowly, cautiously, and peeked at AJ. Tattoos bled down AJ’s arms, a dragon one crawling up his back. Exactly in the same spots where AJ had always had tattoos, except now they were on a woman’s body.

Howie extended his hand, looking like he might touch them, and pulled it back. “Wow.”

Sometimes one just has to dip one’s toes back into (very) old fandom waters. This is still one of the best turned-into-a-girl fics I’ve ever read.
