This takes canon (why oh why did they make them antagonists?!?) and fixes it in the most stunning way. I adore this Jack and the way he finds himself again.
OMG, how is this even real?! An MCU version of Stardust that shouldn’t work but totally does.
Oh, how I loved these two – in many ways, Nine will always and forever be my Doctor.
“Uhura said you did it for her,” Jim points out.
“That was a different situation. I was in complete control of what I was doing.” When Jim raises an eyebrow—somehow, he’ll make Spock lose control?—Spock repeats tightly, “I could not guarantee my actions.”
After “Into Darkness” Jim has trouble sleeping – Uhura thinks that Spock can help. I love how this can’t be any other version of Kirk and Spock than the Kelvin timeline – and it gets hot as burning.
He tries not to think about the tiny apartment around him and how it might become his home instead. It’s much too cold, the air too thick, the amenities painfully behind what he’s used to. But at least he’ll have Jim, so it will be bearable.

It takes Kara a full, careful year to cut Lee Adama out of her life, and less than a minute to let him back in.

Canon-divergent vaguely after season 2, this is a perfect little thing – because while Apollo and Starbuck always worked, Lee and Kare were a different story…
Later he would try to remember exactly what happened that afternoon, after he promised Qui-Gon absolute forgiveness. He should have memorized every detail about that moment, because it was the passage of one life into another, a banquet after long fasting, the satiation of a hunger he had not recognized, before.

This fic straddles the uncomfortable line that’s unavoidable in a realistic depiction of a relationship between teacher and student, yet it somehow manages to be incredibly readable and touching.
Qui-Gon is not worried for him exactly—Obi-Wan has been ready for a long time, at least two years before the Naboo mission—but he cannot shake the idea that Obi-Wan should be with him.
He has lost so much, even in surviving. The medics on Naboo have taken his heart and the Council have taken his Padawan.
