He ventured across the room and quickly found a group of gentlemen near the table boasting a vast assortment of hors d’oeuvres. He made a grand show of putting his arm around Captain Brady’s shoulders while they chatted with the others in their company. John laughed loudly at the jokes and jibes aimed at various members of their friend group, and listened attentively to Ken’s stories from his travels throughout the continent, all the while keeping track of Gale’s stoic figure in the corner of his eye.
