Dick had pressed his fingertips against Nix’s throat and held them there until some warmth bled from his fingertips back into Nix’s frozen skin. His pulse beat steadily against Dick’s hand, an echo caught and tapped back.

Bucky knew instantly that this was the guy he’d been waiting for – the kid definitely didn’t look old enough to get into the bar, so it was damn lucky that the company paid the place well enough to put its younger models on the guest list so they can walk straight through the doors. He was small and slight, barely five-foot-five inches tall and very slim – Bucky would bet his left arm that if he took Steve’s shirt off, his ribs would be visible. He was blond and his eyes were so blue and big that Bucky could see them clearly from across the room and when he got closer Bucky could see the dark, thick eyelashes that framed them. God, the kid was beautiful. Very young, but very beautiful.

But, try as he might, Bucky couldn’t sleep. He could only think of the previous dream, and of the pain he’d likely have felt while standing up at the altar with Steve as he married Peggy. He wished Steve hadn’t found the thought of their respective marriages so endearing.
After a moment, though, Steve closed the book again. He rested it on his lap and said. “But I don’t think that would have been it.”
Adult, post-WS. Love this peek at what might have been if Bucky hadn’t fallen and Steve hadn’t crashed – and since it’s a dream, there’s no icky cheating issue. The stand-alone companion piece about Paris is awesome, too.
