Lan Wangji has made his feelings plain. He’s here because he has to be, because this is war, because the Sunshot Campaign is drawing all of the resources from all of the remaining sects. He wouldn’t be spending all this time with Wei Wuxian otherwise. Someday the war will be over; in the meantime Wei Wuxian can pretend that they’re allies, that he merits Lan Wangji’s company, that Wei Wuxian is someone Lan Wangji would choose to spend time with if war hadn’t curtailed his other options.

Pretense doesn’t last forever, but Wei Wuxian is very stubborn, and a very good liar.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan hook up during the Sunshot Campaign – but that’s all it is, right? Or maybe not. This is gorgeous.

He makes an abrupt pause in his writing, and though he doesn’t look up, the smudge on the paper is ever-growing. If not for the practice of his calligraphy, all the work put into transcribing those rules would have been for nought. He’ll have to discard those, and start over.

Wei Wuxian, however, unfortunately encouraged by his reticence, continues.

“We are hoping to dry off and get some rest after a long journey,” Lan Zhan says. “Would you have a room for the night?”

The woman gives them a long look up and down, and a slow grin. “We have a room and much more, Young Masters.” Wei Wuxian has also noticed the make-up on the female halves of the two couples currently giggling together over their wine, and some discord between the girls’ pretty robes and the simple style of dress of their male friends, and he throws Lan Zhan a look.

Lan Zhan is his most polite self, nodding at their landlady. His face is still wet, gleaming in the inn’s soft light, which is a cute look on him.

Traveling together, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan seek shelter from a storm in this completely delightful first time fic.

‘Don’t indulge in pleasure,’ was perfectly comprehensible – at fourteen Lan Wangji already knew that that meant no second helping of stew, even if you were still hungry, and definitely no more little cakes, your mother should never have made those for you to try in the first place.

An absolutely compelling LWJ POV, which should be hilarious with its confusion about everything sexual but somehow ends up being full of emotions. (Still funny at times, though.)
