You don’t see stars in Norfolk, England, not like back home, the goddamned soup of the clouds hiding them away like it hides targets and flack and goddamned lurking messerschmitts, but it’s not so bad from the ground. He can’t mind too much, sitting in the bed of a truck with Bucky, trying to squint through it and pick them out, the not quite familiar shape of them.

It’s nothing like taking Marge out stargazing in high school, this is all elbows and ribbing instead of hand holding, but it’s also exactly the same. It’s not like he can’t tell Bucky isn’t looking at the stars just the same as she never really did, even if neither one of them is going to do anything about it.

“What?” John huffed through laughter, not sure whether he was truly incredulous or afraid.

“He’s got a pretty face, I’ll give y’ that- but you’re blindingly obvious if a guy knows what to look for.”

Gale shakes his head in amusement, feeling his cheeks flushing in the humidity.

“You tried one of these yet? They just came in today.” Bucky asks. Gale turns back, only to see Bucky holding out the orange. Gale looks away, looks down, as the heat of the room overwhelms him. He and Bucky don’t normally coincide in here. It’s not like they’ve never ended up in the showers at the same time, but never like this. Never just the two of them.

Curt burrows deeper into the warmth of John’s body and wonders where he factors into the two Bucks saga of epic love. Named and claimed on day one, inseparable as two halves of the same thing.

He’s been clinging to the fringes of that love, lapping up the runoff of that unspoken passion happily. Lately it’s been feeling like maybe it’s not enough but he takes what he can get without complaint.

He’s always watched him. “Look, Robby, Michael, Mike,” he starts, because maybe Robby’s just stuck in work-mode, he needs to remember who he is.
